Welcome to the second edition of the Los Angeles Lakers weekly wrap up. I go by the name of P.A. and as always I’m joined by the talented Corban and Nick from Lakers Lounge. We teamed up again to tell you what we thought about the last seven days of Lakers basketball. So, before we waste another second, let’s undress this week like you would your future ex-wife after a few drinks.
Here again this week to cover a few things i would like the Lakers do for the upcoming week. We’ve got 3 games next week and their all very winnable Knicks, Pistons, Bucks.
This week, hands down was better than last. I was very impressed with the way the Lakers were able to pull out a win against a Denver Nuggets team that is on the rise. We had Russell back and it showed. The tempo was better, the ball was moving and the shots were more smarter ones as opposed to last week when Lo was out. No arguing he’s THAT man for us right now.
We nearly had the victory against the Wizards, until John Wall made 2 important 3’s when the game was knotted up in the 4th with about 6 minutes left. Wall scored 14 points in the 4th to close out the game and seal the victory for the Wizards.
Cant be mad at the hustle and grit the Lake Show gave in the game. I’d prefer seeings us close out more when defending the 3 and relying on the help defense. Trust that your man is going to get picked up. Another thing i want to see is less ball gawking. This week there were to many times i saw the lakers ball gawk when one of the wizards players would get the ball at the 3. Close out young bucks everyone gets a facial every now and then, don’t be afraid of it happening its the NB freakin A.
As I’m writing this we just finished playing the Celtics. I’m ticked because it was yet another game that was ours for the taking. Started off strong and looked promising. We lacked consistency throughout the whole 48 minutes, chunked up 3’s attempting to get back in the game all at once. We almost got through the whole week with a good evaluation with smart shot taking but with this game happened.. The Lakers have enough size to get in the paint and utilize it to score easy buckets. STAY AWAY FROM SHOOTING NOTHING BUT 3’s. We aren’t the Warriors. I repeat utilize some of our bigs and bangers we have to try and get some easy bunnies.
I want to see more of a inside game this upcoming week, and more close outs on the 3 ball. Don’t be afraid to get it drained in your face because that’s what it seems like. Trust the help defense also. Most importantly of all, i want consistency next week and maybe we can take all 3 games. The teams next week aren’t the bee’s knees if anything we’re more talented and have way more potential than all 3, but thats my opinion.
Overall Grade C+
Maybe I’m being harsh .. but oh well i expect greatness.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that this season for the Lakers wont be judged by wins or losses. That expectation won’t become a reality until the beginning of next year. This year will ultimately be measured by how each individual player developed personally and his cohesiveness with the squad. It will be judged by how the Los Angeles Lakers as a unit came together and how they used tough times to build tough players. Even thought Lakers suffered two closes losses this week, this team is coming along ahead of schedule, even if their record may not reflect it.
D’Angelo Russell has come back from injury looking like the star-child the post-Kobe Los Angele Lakers desperately needed. Russell backed up his career high in assists on back-to-back nights with tonight’s 20,6,6 performance. Even thought the Boston Celtics came out with the win, the Lakers never seemed out of it. This team has come a long way in the last few weeks, but they’ve made even greater strides recently. With the return of Larry Nance. Jr from injury mixed with Russell’s comeback, the Lakers have found that spark they’ve desperately craved, and not a moment too soon.
With all that being said, I can’t keep watching the Lakers lose games they should win. I feel like I’m watching a Hollywood movie when I watch them play. I’m tired of watching the suspense thriller where the good guy loses at the end and you have to wait for the sequel (next year). I’m ready to watch the underdog story of the little engine that could. I guess within due time that will happen, but if the addition of Magic Johnson to the front office staff means anything, they better start producing results sooner than later.
