After a few days of digestion from Friday’s game against the Celtics that came in a loss I started thinking about something. I began to appreciate how lucky I am to have been able to watch the Lakers and Celtics clash in the finals twice, ending in 1-1 result. In a perfect world I’d would have it rather been 2-0 so that Kobe would have already gotten his 6th ring, but maybe they don’t even get to the finals that following year to play Dwight Howard’s Magic, and then the Celtics one more time. Its a slippery slope to go down so I’ll leave it at that.
If what I got from these two Finals matchup’s was what it was like during the Showtime Lakers vs Larry Bird Celtics then DAMN I missed out. I can speak for the masses when I say that going to a game 7 for all the marbles is not a great feeling but at the same time as a sports lover it’s something you gotta appreciate because you only imagine something like that in your wildest dreams.
If you call yourself a basketball fan then you know that the Lakers and Celtics have the most storied rivalry in the NBA. Not at the moment but you know that when these two teams meet up everyone on the floor has pretty good idea of the history and bring it 150% to that game.
So then I thought about. Who would get to the finals first and who would get a title first?
As it looks right now the Celtics probably have the best chance of getting to the finals. Winning it not so sure. The Celtics proved to be able to matchup up with the Cavaliers this past week and won. In a 7 game series it’s going to be tough because that’s when you can be honest and lock down on a teams game plan. Lets say and god forbid, Kyrie gets hurt, and Kevin Love doesn’t return at the timely manner as they had thought. I don’t want to insult Lebron’s greatness , but it will be tough. If the Celtics do get to the finals, they will probably be facing the Warriors and I don’t see them coming out of that one the victor, sorry C’s.
As for the Lakers, I mean, the only top seeds we’re possibly getting this come June is a high draft pick. If by some miracle Magic can pull off some magic this summer we could possibly land a PG13 and now we’re talking about a possible run in the playoffs. Not sure how far , but then we’ve got the ball rolling on how talented the team could be and will be. Possible overhype on my end or not. The addition of Magic will definitely make the Lakers more of a sexy place to want to come and play. It not like we don’t have the pieces. I’ve become excited on what the next couple of season will bring even more so than before because of the addition of Magic Johnson.
I do believe, yes, the Celtics have a better chance of getting to the finals, as far as winning, no because i feel like they need one more piece to put them over the top. Not sure they can even part with anything they have at this moment because it would mess the whole THING they got going on. In the long run in my honest unbiased opinion i feel like the Lakers have a better shot at winning it first because of the potential of talented young players as well as the speculation about a possible PG13 return to LA.
What do you think? Who do you think can make it back to the promise land?
